Antigonish, where you can find Highland Games

This town of 5000 is a major cultural and service center for Antigonish County. It is the home of St. Francis Xavier University. They hold Highland Games in mid July every year at Columbus Field.

Below are some photo's from around town.  We stayed at Shebby's B&B which was within walking distance of everything. Did not need to use the car while we were there.

The next group of photos are the Highland Dance Choreography Competition, part of Friday's events.  For dinner we walked into town and had a nice meal at Gabrieau's (he used to be the chef at Sunshine). He must have retained custody of the House Salad recipe because it was on his menu, so we had it. After dinner we returned to Columbus Field for the Concert Under The Stars, a mostly local assortment of fiddlers, dancers, singers and pianists, all of them really good. There was even more music in the pub tent after the concert. There were more dance competitions during the Highland Games and also pipe band competitions, some of which we captured on video tape.

Saturday morning there was a parade after which we headed over to the field for more Highland Games.
