The center of the North Wall
has a higher section which is where the North Bastion use to be.
During World War II (November 1940) the North Bastion was destroyed by the German
Luftwaffe.
Behind this part of the North Wall you can see Brick Tower on the left and Bowyer Tower on
the right.
In 1592 Sir Walter Ralegh served a 5-week prison sentence in the Brick Tower.
Bowyer Tower was the dwelling and workshop of the royal bow-maker.
Longbows, crossbows and catapults would have been made there.
A fire broke out in Bowyer Tower in 1841 that destroyed it and the Grand Storehouse
beyond.
