Hawaii
Hawaii signified the beginning of the end of our year’s travels and a return to both home and family. The Big Island of Hawaii is where Annette’s brother Anthony and his lovely wife Debra live, on the temperate slopes over-looking Kona. Annette has been coming to this particular Island now for over 20 years on an almost annual basis and she is intimate with the place.
Debra and Anthony’s home offered us the ideal environment in which to recuperate from a long voyage and the space in which to contemplate the experience. They took incredibly good care of us both and lavished us with all the creature comforts of home as well as some incredible meals and fine wines.
We visited several of the old haunts and spent time with Annette’s niece Beth and her growing family. Rest was foremost on our agenda and we took advantage of Hawaii’s beautiful beaches and surrounding landscapes to relax.
Unfortunately, time caught up with us all too quickly and leaving was customarily bittersweet. Sad to be once more saying goodbye to the people we so dearly loved, yet optimistic and excited about the possibilities that awaited us in Baltimore.
We said farewell to Hawaii and arrived home on July 2nd 2001.
It is with sincerest thanks that we make special mention here of the many people along our travel route who helped create lasting memories. Thanks to every one of you who took the time to keep in touch with us throughout the year – those e-mails kept us going and helped us feel truly connected.
